One of Ireland’s best export deals in pedigree cattle was achieved in February 2010 by leading Irish Salers breeder Brian Halton of Corlurgan Salers, Bailieboro, Co Cavan when he shipped a total of 22 of his cattle to North Wales.

The Halton family has built up their Salers herd to about 50 cows over the past 15 years. The export deal comprised mainly of daughters of Brian’s stock bull Scorpion – the Paris Show winner of 2005.

Also included was a daughter of the AI bull LZE (Lataster Eric) and a daughter of top French bull Ocaire. The dams of a number of these females were also Paris Show winners. The bull was a son of Scorpion, out of a cow by Muguet.

The buyer, Mr Alun Jones also purchased the Halton show winning, cow Ulena and her calf.

Ulena was 1st in Paris in 2005.Since she came into Ireland she has been 1st in the show ring on 17 occasions.
